Extraction of oil of jasmine flower is a process which is arranged to extract the jasmine oil from jasmine flower. The extraction could be done by two different methods. The first one is called solvent extraction and the other is enfleuration method. The enfleuration method use fat as adsorption medium. This research studies the enfleuration method only, because this method suitable to be applied in village where the center of jasmine flower production exist. This method use many employment and no need high technology. The advantage using this method is getting higher yield and better jasmine oil quality, but on the other hand this method was time consuming. The flower to be extracted in this research is of kind of jasminum sambac, the most popular kind in Indonesia.
Enfleuration process begins with adsorption of the volatile compound from the living flower over several hours by fat. After that the fat was dissolved in concentrated alcohol and is followed by cooling down to – 12oC. The next step is fat separation by centrifugation following by filtering. Finally the alcohol is distilled away to leave behind the pure essence popularly named absolute.
The influence of using mixtures between beef tallow and several vegetable oils that contain different amount of multiple chemical bond in their chemical structure would be studied in this research, mainly the effect to the yield and composition of jasmine oil obtained. Beside that the common characteristic of the enfleuration process also be studied. The kind of vegetable oil that is used is coconut oil, palm oil, corn oil and soybeans oil.
Result of the research show that the yield of absolute of jasmine oil obtained for adsorbent of mixture of beef tallow with corn oil, coconut oil, soybeans oil and palm oil was 0.07, 0.06, 0.02 and 0.005 weigh % respectively. If only beef tallow that used as adsorbent the obtained yield would be 0.04 weigh %.
